Google now has 51% of the search market to Yahoo's 24% and this lead has been increasing over the months. Yahoo! has made two interesting products announcements to stem the tide. The first one is Panama. This is their answer to Google's online advertising products. The only problem here is that it is a "me too" strategy. Yahoo!'s major advancement with this platform is to place ads based on relevancy. The second product announcement was Yahoo pipes. This service makes it easy for people to build mashups. Given that the mahsup phenomenon is new, developers will move to environments that is easy to use and has the broadest set of services. Both these products are intended to help Yahoo build network effects.
