Microsoft
announced a deal with Novell that involves some joint selling and technology licensing around SuSe Linux. This follows closely the announcement from Oracle committing support to Linux. As a result of these announcements products from those vendors will start working on the Linux environment and promote interoperability with other products. My guess is that these two vendors are treating operating systems as commodities and interoperability will allow them to sell more products and services.
